Admission Requirements For Online MBA Programs

Getting admission in an MBA program is a dream for many students. Although there are a number of institutions that offer regular as well as online MBA programs, getting admission into one of them is a tough process. The admission process for an online MBA program consists of the following stages:

The first stage in the process is the procurement of the application form. You have to send an application that you are interested in seeking admission at least 15 to 16 months before the term. You can procure the form either by downloading it from the website of the university or through post.

After this you will need to furnish a host of documents. The first is a history of your academic performance. This is one of the deciding factors in your being granted admission. This is because out of the thousands of candidates who apply, students with an excellent track record are generally taken seriously. But this can differ depending upon the quality and the reputation of the university you have applied for. Students thus need to attach a copy of the mark sheet of each college and school they have attended.

The next stage is the tests. Online MBA programs require that an applicant submit scores of two tests: GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). TOEFL is a test for non-US residents, while GMAT is mandatory for all. GMAT scores are required in all business schools across the US. Although the minimum marks required in colleges differ depending on the quality and reputation of the institution, still a score of 450 is minimum in most B-schools. GMAT is basically a test that looks for mathematical, analytical, verbal, and writing skills in a student. This is very necessary, as they want to test whether a student is able to handle the advanced level of business studies well or not. TOEFL is basically an English proficiency test for the students from non-English speaking countries.

If you want to apply to a good business school, then prior work experience will prove to be an advantage. It is another factor that helps in your selection. Many institutions also ask for letters of recommendation as a part of their admission process. These letters of recommendation should be from the people who have taught you, or know you personally. Recommendations are most preferred if they come from an academician or lecturers who have seen your potential in studies.

Finally, you need to furnish a personal statement, also popularly known as business school essays. This is the single most important document that could set you apart from other candidates. Here, you are free to write anything, but you must specifically highlight yourself as the main subject of study. This statement of purpose is given high importance in all good business institutions.
